The Packers threw away a first-half lead before losing in OT.
A disastrous second-half performance led the Green Bay Packers to a bad loss in overtime to the Indianapolis Colts.
Up 28-14 at the half and in control of the game, the Packers fell apart to lose the game 34-31 after a performance filled with mistakes.
The Packers simply couldn’t get out of their own way. They turned the ball over four times including on their final possession in overtime. Yet despite all of their mistakes, they had a chance to win the game late on.
We finally got to see what rarely seems to happen: Green Bay with the ball in overtime. Tim Boyle beautifully called tails correctly to win the coin toss and put the ball right into the hands of No. 12. Unfortunately, two plays into the possession and Marquez Valdes-Scantling fumbled to set up a game-winning kick for Indianapolis.
MVS inconsistent play continues in Packers’ final two drives
We’ve seen the good and the bad from Valdes-Scantling all season.
Without his incredible 47-yard catch with three defenders surrounding him, the Packers likely wouldn’t have had the opportunity to tie the game in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. It was a game-changing play by MVS.
Well, it could’ve been. As he attempted to pick up a first down in overtime, Julian Blackmon punched the ball out of his hands and the Colts took over in Packers territory.
In reality, the game should never have come down to that. Green Bay was in control and just needed to prevent the costly errors. A botched snap, an Aaron Rodgers interception, a fumble by Darrius Shepherd on special teams, and finally Valdes-Scantling’s fumble in OT. Four turnovers is simply not good enough when taking on a team like the Colts.
With the loss, the Packers fall to 7-3 but still lead the way in the NFC North. Fortunately, the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions were beaten by the Carolina Panthers.
Onto the Chicago Bears…
