Cubs lose 10th consecutive game; David Ross ejected - The Athletic

The Chicago Cubs lost their 10th consecutive game and manager David Ross was ejected in a 13-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. The losing streak is the Cubs' longest since 2012.

“When you’re going through what we’re going through right now, not hitting up to our capabilities and things don’t go your way and you get to look back at them, there is some frustration,” Ross said.

The Cubs gave up five home runs and a six-run eighth inning in their first game in Chicago following a 1-9 road trip against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs started that road trip in first place in the National League Central, but since Jun. 24, they’ve dropped to third in the division — 8.5 games behind the Brewers and 2.5 behind the Reds.

Ross was ejected for arguing balls and strikes following a Bryce Harper walk with the game tied 2-2 in the sixth inning. It was his third ejection of the season and the fourth of his managerial career.

“It felt like from my standpoint, (Harper) complained and got a call from complaining,” Ross said. “I felt like (umpire Nic Lentz) got talked into a zone."

The Cubs are winless since throwing a combined no-hitter against the Dodgers on June 24. They are now 42-43 with three games left in their series against the Phillies.

“I don’t think any big speech that a manager has given in my career has just made things better,” Ross said. “This is a winning group in here that’s been a part of winning for a long time. I don’t think anything I’m going to say in the big picture is going to change anything drastically.”
