The Phoenix Suns will have to wait another year for a chance to win the franchise’s first NBA title as the team fell to the Milwaukee Bucks 105-98 in Game 6 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had a performance for the ages leading his team to the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy, scoring 50 points and adding 14 rebounds and five blocks.
It’s the Bucks second championship in franchise history and first since 1971.
The Suns came out sluggish in the first quarter, shooting 29% from the floor and turning the ball over five times.
Milwaukee was able to build a 13-point lead at one point in the first quarter, but the Suns offense woke up and cleaned up the ball handling in the second quarter.
Phoenix improved the team’s shooting to an excellent 63% in the second quarter and only had two turnovers, while the Bucks offense went cold to the tune of a 21% shooting percentage from the floor as Phoenix entered the lockerroom up by five points.
Each team shot well in the third quarter, with the Suns shooting 12-of-23 (52%) and the Bucks rebounding to shoot 12-of-21 (57%) as the two teams entered the final 12 minutes of regulation all tied at 77.
The Bucks kept their impressive shooting going in the fourth quarter, led by their star Antetokounmpo who scored 17 points in the quarter.
Milwaukee shot 10-of-18 in the quarter (56%), while the Suns only had eight of their 21 chances fall (38%).
Turnovers also returned for the Suns, who had three turnovers in the final six minutes.
It was a sloppy game for both sides, with the Suns having 14 and the Bucks having 18.
Chris Paul led the Suns with 26 points and five assists, while Devin Booker added 19 points and five assists.
Each Suns starter was in the negative in the +/- with the exception of Jae Crowder, who scored 15 points and gathered 11 rebounds.
