British pubcaster Channel 4 has greenlit the inspirational weight loss format Lose Weight Like Me from Manchester-based Flying Saucer Television, a division of Gobstopper Television.
The tentatively titled 1 x 60-minute pilot will premiere in 2021 and follows two individuals wanting to make a dramatic change to their lifestyle.
The duo will be introduced to four members of the public who have managed to overcome weight gains, with each losing up to 200lbs on “safe and sustainable weight loss plans” that combine a mixture of diet and exercise. The four “health heroes” will remain in studio hidden behind photos of what they used to look like before altering their lives.
The two contestants will only get to meet their “health heroes” if they’re chosen as a mentor. If selected, the contestants must follow their tried and tested weight loss plan, which has been approved by a leading dietician, before sharing their eight-week results with the audience.
Lose Weight Like Me will be fronted by NHS general practitioner Dr. Sara Kayat (pictured left) and British street dancer Jordan Banjo (right), the latter of whom lost more than 140lbs.
The pair will help the contributors understand how each dietary plan may help motivate them to succeed at becoming healthier.
Lose Weight Like Me (working title) is executive produced by Flying Saucer’s Ross McCarthy, Kieran McCarthy and Mandy Thomson. It was commissioned by C4′s Sean Doyle, deputy head of features and formats.
