Nursing home workers reach tentative deal to end strike against Infinity - Chicago Sun-Times

A tentative agreement between Infinity Healthcare Management and its nursing home workers was reached Friday evening after nearly 700 employees went on strike almost two weeks ago.

The nursing home workers — including cooks, housekeepers and certified nursing assistants — have been negotiating for a new contract since June. Their last contract expired in May.

Workers at 11 Infinity locations in Chicago and the suburbs first hit the picket lines on Nov. 23. They were demanding improved working conditions, base salaries between $15 and $15.30 an hour (up from $11.50 to $13.50, depending on location) and hazard pay for the duration of the pandemic.

SEIU Healthcare Illinois, which represents the striking workers, has said Infinity facilities have struggled to provide protection for workers during the pandemic and are hot spots in the state.

SEIU Healthcare has an ownership stake in Sun-Times Media.

Negotiations faltered the week of Thanksgiving after the owner of Infinity left town unexpectedly, union leaders said. Bargaining sessions resumed Monday.
