The Mets will have one more crack at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, and they’ll enter that game still looking for their first win against the defending World Series champions.

The Dodgers continued their domination of the Mets with a 4-3 win on Saturday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, taking their sixth straight game against the Mets this season.

While winning the third game of the three-game series, the Dodgers pushed their winning streak to eight games, with six of them coming against the Mets. The Mets have now lost eight of their past nine games. While the Dodgers have won all six meetings against the Mets this season, four of those wins have been by one run.

The loss dropped the Mets a season-high 6.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves for first place in the NL East. The Braves will play the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night.

Former Dodger Rich Hill started for the Mets, and a pair of first-inning home runs set the tone. Trea Turner led off the game with his first home run since being traded to the Dodgers from the Washington Nationals in late July, and Albert Pujols added another two batters later.

Another solo home run from Chris Taylor in the fourth inning pushed the Dodgers’ lead to 3-0.

The Mets managed to run Dodgers starter Max Scherzer out of the game following the fifth inning after he threw 103 pitches. But the Mets managed to push just one run across against him.

That run came in the fifth inning when Brandon Nimmo hit a long solo home run down the right-field line. The Mets threatened to add on when the next three batters reached to load the bases with two outs, but J.D. Davis struck out against Scherzer to end the inning.

Hill finished the fifth inning with just 71 pitches, but manager Luis Rojas opted to go to the bullpen in the sixth. That’s when the game nearly got away from the Mets.

Miguel Castro allowed a broken-bat single to open the inning, and he walked the next three batters to force in a run. With the Dodgers up 4-1 and still threatening with the bases loaded, Jeurys Familia entered and escaped the jam without allowing another run.

That run proved to be costly after Pete Alonso pulled the Mets within one run with a two-run home run in the seventh inning. His high drive to left field hit the top of the wall and bounced into the stands for his second home run in as many games.

Alonso stepped to the plate with the tying run on second and two outs in ninth inning, but Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen struck him out to end the game.
