Cubs Lose 12th Straight Home Game, Tying Team Record

Cubs one home loss away from franchise history originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
On July 26, Javy Báez taunted Reds reliever Amir Garrett as a raucous crowd celebrated his walk-off hit.
It’s been almost four weeks since that unforgettable moment at Wrigley Field. That means it’s been nearly four weeks since the Cubs' last home win.
The Cubs’ home losing streak reached 12 on Saturday, now tied for the longest in franchise history.
They’ve been outscored 90-32 over that stretch, including 4-2 against the Royals on Saturday.
With a loss Sunday, the Cubs will snap a tie with the 1994 team for the franchise’s longest home losing streak. The 1994 club lost 12 straight to open the season (April 4-May 3) and went 49-64 overall before a strike shut down the sport.
Báez yelled at Garrett and cranked his bat after hitting a walk-off single a month ago. Four days later, the Cubs traded him and Kris Bryant, and Anthony Rizzo a day before that, during a trade deadline roster purge.

The results haven’t been pretty since. The Cubs went on their second double-digit losing streak of the season. That 12-game skid included a winless homestand — their first of seven-plus games in nearly 80 years.
"We're trying to win on a daily basis," said Cubs manager David Ross pregame Saturday, who added he was unaware of the record. "I don't think we get too caught up in streaks or things. We’ve got to do our best every single day.
"Those losses pile up and it definitely sucks, but we're trying to win them all."
They have another opportunity Sunday.
