BOSTON (CBS) – More than 451,000 homes and businesses lost power Wednesday as strong winds from the nor’easter hit eastern Massachusetts.
According to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, the number of customers without electricity was 451,505 as of 5:17 p.m. The outages hit a high of 499,000 by mid-morning and slowly began to decline.
The hardest hit areas are on the South Shore, Cape Cod and Cape Ann.
“National Grid and Eversource, and the other utilities are already working to restore power when they can, but in some cases, they do need to wait until the winds come down before it’s really going to be safe to get up into a bucket truck,” said Gov. Baker on Wednesday at the public safety complex in Scituate.

Our administration is working with utilities to speed up recovery times, but crews are still assessing the level of damage.
If you are in an impacted community, please be careful: check in on neighbors, stay away from downed power lines and stay off the roads.

Several communities are completely in the dark with power outages reaching 100-percent there. You can see the list here. (click the Data tab).
If you are outside, always avoid downed power lines and use generators outside away from buildings.
