When a team smacks seven home runs in a night, you typically would assume they would win the game. The Los Angeles Angels, somehow, did not.
After tying an MLB record with seven home runs in a game, the host Angels lost to American League West rival Oakland Athletics 8-7 on Thursday night.
The Angels only led for the first two innings, hitting two solo home runs in each of the first two frames, before the Oakland Athletics poured it on with a six-run third inning. Two of the seven home runs for the Angels came from Shohei Ohtani.
It was an odd display from the Angels, who became the first team in MLB history to hit seven solo home runs while not scoring any other runs in a game. They also became the sixth team in MLB history to hit seven home runs in a game and lose.
The Angels were sellers at the deadline, but the rumors of Ohtani potentially being on the move did not materialize. After trading away Noah Syndergaard, Raisel Iglesias, and Brandon Marsh, the rebuild while also having two generational talents on the roster continues.
