ALLEN PARK -- The Detroit Lions have lost another assistant to the Carolina Panthers, this time defensive line coach Todd Wash. Former running backs coach/assistant head coach Duce Staley also joined Frank Reich’s new staff in Charlotte, while former Lions head coach Jim Caldwell has joined the club as a senior advisor.
Wash spent the last two seasons in Detroit, and was particularly influential to the development of Aidan Hutchinson. The second overall pick led all rookies with 9.5 sacks, was twice named rookie of the month and finished runner-up for defensive rookie of the year. Another rookie, sixth-round pick James Houston, finished second among first-year players with eight sacks. Detroit set a new record for sacks by first-year players overall.
The Lions have managed to hold onto all of their their coordinators, but will be looking for a new defensive line coach in the coming days.
