Isaac Van Dyke dazzled on the mound for the Moo (11-9) as he gave up several hits, but often did his job by not letting Badlands plate many runs.

The Big Sticks (11-8) left nine runners on base in the loss stranding two runners in each of the second and eighth innings.

“The run total doesn’t show that we had success, but we had 11 hits,” Big Sticks head coach Billy Tomblin said. “We hit the ball hard. We just couldn’t come up with a timely hit and that is all it was. They have a really good pitching staff… We just didn’t come up with the big one.”

First baseman Conner VanCleave sent a ball deep to centerfield in the sixth inning for his fourth home run of the year, and catcher Nick Wimmers drove in third baseman Gaylan Young in the second frame, but the two runs weren’t enough despite a solid job on the mound for Badlands.

Hunter Omlid went six innings giving up only six hits and four runs, while Joel Colledge relieved him throwing the final three innings and giving up only two hits and walking one.

Braden Cordes and Jacob Flores struck out looking in back-to-back plate appearances to end the game.

“That is frustrating, but it is frustrating for them too,” Tomblin said. “They aren’t looking to strike out… They are in the line up for a reason though and I have complete confidence in them in all situations. It just didn’t go our way tonight.”

Badlands out hit the Moo, 11-8 in the close loss.

Fremont scored a single run in each of the second, third, fifth and sixth innings.

Carson Lundmark upped his average to an Expedition League best .463 going 3-4 at the plate with a double, while VanCleave recorded two hits including his moon shot to the deepest part of the park.

Luke White had two RBI for the Moo.

Fremont took two of three from the Big Sticks in both of their three games series this year.

Badlands has their first scheduled off day this season on Thursday before heading to Minot to start a four game series on Friday vs. Souris Valley.

The Big Sticks will have their annual pool day with kids at the West River Community Center on their off day on Thursday afternoon.

“We are going to step away from the baseballs, bats, and gloves,” Tomblin said. “We are going to go to the pool and have a community event and have a nice team dinner (on Thursday). We are going to enjoy it as a team and keep building camaraderie as a group, because I think that will drive us down the home stretch.
