The rule with most electronics is that as the technology advances, products become more affordable. Consider how a mammoth flat-screen TV used to be a signifier of wealth. But that's not the case with phones, which seem to get more expensive with each new release.

The iPhone XR has lost 53.2 percent of its value since 2018, and while that might sound like a lot, the LGV40 ThinQ, a serious competitor in the Android space at the same time on the market, has lost 79.10% of its value in the same time.

While a lot of factors go into which phone you decide to buy, if you intend to resell your phone before buying another, it's worth checking out its potential resale value ahead of time.
