The Roswell High School boys and girls wrestling team took on Mayfield High School and Las Cruces High School in Mayfield last Friday.
The competition was against Mayfield varsity and Las Cruces has a mix of JV and varsity players.
“These are good matches to get started for the district,” Coyotes wrestling head coach Jesse Boggs said.
Roswell is hoping to place top two, to qualify for the state tournament.
The Coyotes boys won against the Mayfield wrestlers by way of a tiebreaker. Roswell eeked out a 2-point advantage in the “Most Wins by Forfeit” criteria.

The Lady Coyotes, however, lost against the Mayfield girls with a total team score of 24-12. Roswell High junior Neriah Martin and senior Smedly Duque won their bouts by way of falls.
“A couple of guys had some tough matches,” Boggs said in regard to his younger players. “The guys came out, wrestled well, and fixed the mistakes that they make throughout the season, which is good to see.”
Despite their success against Mayfield, the Coyotes were unable to take down Las Cruces and lost by a score of 48-36.
