The Cleveland Guardians are a man down.
The Athletic’s Zack Meisel reports “Guardians reliever Nick Sandlin has an upper back/shoulder muscle strain and will miss the rest of the season.”

MLB Trade Rumors Sandlin was a key cog in the Guardians bullpen and won’t be easy to replace ahead of the American League Division Series vs. the New York Yankees.
The loss of Sandlin is a notable one for Cleveland, even if the 25-year-old — like much of the Guardians’ roster — is far from a household name. The 2018 second-rounder made his big league debut in 2021, when he tossed 33 2/3 innings of 2.94 ERA ball, and has had similar success in 2022. ... He tossed 44 innings of 2.25 ERA ball out of the Cleveland ‘pen, including a sparkling 1.11 ERA and 26-to-6 K/BB ratio over his final 24 1/3 frames.
Cleveland.com reports “Right-handers Cody Morris and Aaron Civale are on the taxi squad and could be options. Bryan Shaw, recently designated for assignment and outrighted to Class AAA Columbus, would have to be added to the 40-man roster.”

MLB Trade Rumors reports that without Sandlin, Guardians manager Terry Francona “can turn to righties Emmanuel Clase, James Karinchak, Trevor Stephan and lefty Sam Hentges in leverage spots.”
Game 1 between the Guardians and Yankees is Tuesday at Yankee Stadium.
