Another day, another starter out for the Cleveland Browns this Sunday when they face the Houston Texans.
The Browns released their injury report on Friday for the game. Not only was linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. listed as out, but the club later revealed that Walker had undergone an arthroscopic procedure on his knee, leaving him week to week.
Walker missed last week’s game against the Chicago Bears with the injury, but when he was asked about it earlier this week he replied “I’m good, I’ll be OK.”
Apparently, Walker was taking a big-picture approach to the answer in that it was nothing serious, but having him out for another game and possibly more is still rough, even with a Browns team that has gone overtime in embracing the next-man-up philosophy this season.
At various points this season the Browns have played a game (or more) without key players like Walker, left guard Joel Bitonio, center Ethan Pocic, and cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II.
The club has also seen several starters land on season-ending injured reserve, including quarterback Deshaun Watson, running back Nick Chubb, offensive tackles Jack Conklin and Jedrick Wills Jr., safeties Grant Delpit and Rodney McLeod, and defensive tackle Maurice Hurst II.
As for Sunday’s game against the Texans, in addition to Walker the Browns have ruled out defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo with a pectoral injury, safety Juan Thornhill with a calf injury and linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk with a calf injury. Bitonio is questionable as he is still dealing with the back injury that knocked him out of last week’s game against the Bears.
