CHICO — About 6,600 Chico residents lost power after damaged equipment was found around midday Monday.
The power was shut off manually by PG&E workers after finding equipment at one of the substations was broken and creating unsafe conditions.
PG&E Public Information Officer Paul Moreno said the outage began around 11:30 a.m. and crews are investigating the cause of the damage.
“We de-energized some equipment at our Sycamore Creek substation in north Chico at around 11:34 a.m., which caused the power outage affecting 6,6000 customers in north and east Chico,” Moreno said.
Moreno said the workers were able to restore power before the equipment was fixed.
“We de-energized the equipment after discovering a cooling radiator was damaged and we worked to isolate the damaged equipment so we could safely restore power to customers,” Moreno said.
Power returned to the residents shortly after 1 p.m.
