WELLMAN, Iowa (KCRG) - The Mid-Prairie School Board is meeting behind closed doors Monday night as three administrators at the Mid-Prairie School District, including the superintendent, face hearings that could impact their teaching licenses with the state.

KCRG’s i9 Investigative Team learned Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, which is tasked with overseeing teaching licenses in Iowa, reported its investigation found “probable cause” against Mid-Prairie Superintendent Brian Stone, Middle School Principal Robert Hruby, and Amy Shalla, who resigned as the district’s Special Education Director at the end of the school year.

The Board reportedly identified three alleged violations:

  • Delegating tasks to unqualified personnel
  • Failure to adjust an assignment if a teacher discloses he or she is not properly licensed for an assignment.
  • Failure to protect the safety of staff and students.

Details of those violations will not become public record until the Board issues a final ruling on the matter.

The Mid-Praire School board is holding a “Superintendent Evaluation” Monday night that is closed to the public.

The evaluation comes less than a month after the board had extended the contract of Superintendent Stone for 2 more school years, which also included a pay raise of more than $211,000 in total compensation for the next school year. That extension occurred approximately 3-weeks after the state released the findings of probable cause against him.

KCRG-TV9 did reach out late Monday to the Mid-Prairie District for comment and if the board was aware of the allegations against Stone before extending his contract. We have not received a response.
