WORCESTER, Mass. - Spirits were high on the picket line Monday morning.

Nurses from Saint Vincent Hospital go back to the table with Tenet Healthcare for the first time since the start of the strike.

The Massachusetts Nurses Association [MNA] and Tenet Healthcare agreed to continue talks over staffing conditions for the first time since March 3. Both the MNA and Saint Vincent Hospital are hopeful about the opportunity to reach an agreement.

"I think it is best to take it one day at a time and go in with an open mind and heart, that's how we are entering this, very sincerely. I hope the hospital and [Saint Vincent Hospital CEO] Carolyn Jackson are taking this very seriously. If that is the case, you never know what can happen. as long as our patients are coming first, I think there is always hope," said Marlena Pellegrino, co-chair of the MNA and nurse at Saint Vincent.

"We are feeling hopeful. We think we have an interesting offer to put forth with some language around staffing and we hope they are willing to consider the compromise," Jackson said.

Monday marked the 50th day of the strike, surpassing the 49-day strike by Saint Vincent nurses in 2000.

Negotiations start 3 p.m. on Monday.
