Did you lose an urn necklace at Hagg Lake? A county worker found it - OregonLive

Loren Steele was working for a Washington County vegetation cleanup crew near Hagg Lake on Tuesday when something shiny on the ground caught his eye. It was a round metal object about the size of a nickel or a marble.

“It was covered in mud and I rinsed it off,” Steele said. “I still didn’t really know what it was. I thought it was a Christmas tree decoration.”

Then he noticed the orb had a screw top and a tiny cylinder inside inscribed with the words “Always in my heart.”

Steele took it home, and searched online for jewelry with that phrase. That’s how he discovered it was an urn pendant, containing a small amount of cremated remains. He unscrewed the cylinder and sure enough, saw what looked to be cremains inside.

Steele shared a photo of the pendant with his girlfriend, who posted about it on Facebook. Since sharing it Tuesday afternoon, her post has gotten more than 2,000 shares – but they have yet to find its owner.

The pendant appears to have broken off of a necklace. It was found in western Washington County off Scoggins Valley Road in an area generally only accessed by county employees and used for dumping chipped wood, debris, dirt or other materials that might be used by land and transportation or parks department crews.

It’s also possible the pendant was picked up during the collection of any of these items, and thus could have come from anywhere in the county.

It doesn’t appear to have been in the elements for too long, based on where it was found in the mud and the pendant’s condition.

The pendant itself doesn’t have a high monetary value – you can find it for sale online for less than $17 – so scammers, please don’t bother. But the jewelry surely has a high sentimental value for its owner.

“I don’t feel right keeping it, but I thought I would at least hold onto it and see if by luck we can find the owner,” Steele said. “I’m guessing there are not too many people who are missing one of these.”
