The Angels dropped their second game in a row to the Royals, as the bats went ice cold. The offense only had five hits, as they fell the series-finale to Kansas City, 6-1.
LA’s lone run of the game came in the sixth inning. Mike Trout singled, and then came home to score on a double from Jared Walsh, cutting their deficit from two to only one run. Unfortunately, the Angels couldn’t keep the rally going, as an inning-ending double play from Jose Iglesias ended the frame.
For the game, the Angels were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine runners on base. It was also their first game of the season where they failed to hit at least one home run.
Their biggest opportunity came in the third inning, when they had the bases loaded and only one out. They had exactly who they wanted at the plate in Trout, but he struck out for the second out. Walsh followed him, but just like Trout struck out as well, ending the inning.
Griffin Canning got the start for LA, and was pretty solid. He lasted only five innings, due to his high pitch count, but was excellent. He allowed only two runs and struck out 15, generating 15 whiffs on the afternoon.
Things just fell apart for the pitching staff in the seventh inning. In a one-run game, Chris Rodriguez and Tony Watson allowed a combined three runs to score on four hits, pushing Kansas City’s lead to four runs.
