SACRAMENTO SEEING MORE THAN 75,000 CUSTOMERS WITHOUT POWER. AND AT 24,000 IN SOLANO. AGAIN, THESE NUMBERS CONTINUE. TO GO UP EVERY SINGLE TIME THAT WE REFRESH THIS PAGE. A LOT OF THAT IS BECAUSE OF THE WIND. WE CAN EVEN HEAR IT COMING THROUGH THE WALLS HERE AT OUR STUDIO. LET’S GO TO METEOROLOGIST DIRK VERDOORN FOR MORE ON THE IMPACTS WE’RE SEEING. I. MEAN, IT’S RIGHT BEHIND YOU. OH YEAH. THINGS ARE RATTLING AROUND ON OUR ROOFS RIGHT HERE IN THE STUDIO. BUT YEAH, YOU CAN SEE THE FLAGS HERE IN SUTTER PARK. UH, OUTFIELD. AND THEY’RE GETTING WHIPPED AROUND RIGHT NOW AGAIN, ACTUALLY, THE CAMERA WAS SHIFTED BECAUSE OF THOSE STRONG WINDS. SO HOW STRONG HAVE THE WINDS BEEN SO FAR? WELL, HERE’S A LOOK AT SOME OF THE PEAK GUSTS THAT WE’VE HAD SO FAR TODAY. OUT AT MCCLELLAN AIRPORT. WE’VE HAD A WIND GUST UP TO 59MPH. MATHER AIRPORT REPORTING A WIND GUST OF 62MPH. THAT’S BEEN THE STRONGEST WIND THAT I’VE BEEN ABLE TO FIND IN THE VALLEY SO FAR. SAC INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, 51 MILE AN HOUR. WIND GUSTS FAIRFIELD AT TRAVIS AIRFIELD. REPORTING OF WIND GUSTS OF 56MPH AND STOCKTON OUT AT THE AIRPORT HAD A WIND GUST OF 48MPH, SO SOME PRETTY STRONG WINDS SO FAR. NOW, RIGHT NOW WE’RE SEEING WIND GUSTS ANYWHERE BETWEEN 37MPH AND PLACERVILLE AND 56MPH CURRENTLY IN FAIRFIELD, WIND GUSTS BETWEEN 40 TO 48. 61,000 lose power in Sacramento County, SMUD outage map shows
Tens of thousands of SMUD customers have lost power across Sacramento County as strong winds moved across the region on Sunday afternoon. SMUD’s outage map showed more than 61,000 customers impacted, as of 2:45 p.m. That includes more than 16,500 in the Arden-Arcade area, 19,000 in south Sacramento, 5,000 in Carmichael and 6,000 in downtown Sacramento. Sacramento wind gusts have reached at least 48 mph so far. KCRA 3’s Erin Heft is checking out reports of downed power lines. Meteorologist Heather Waldman says that by mid-afternoon, the area of strongest winds will spread north into Sacramento and east into the Foothills. Winds of this strength can cause power outages as well as limb and tree damage.The wind will slowly back off late Sunday evening.
