BATH, Maine (AP) — A shipyard workers' union in Maine and a Navy shipbuilder were scheduled to return to the table on Monday amid a strike that began weeks ago.
The Machinists Local S6 union that represents about 4,300 workers at Bath Iron Works said previously that it would resume negotiations with the shipyard. The union went on strike June 22 after rejecting a contract offer.
Both sides provided very limited details on Monday about how negotiations were going. The contract dispute centers heavily on subcontractors, work rules and seniority. It was unclear how long the round of negotiations would last.
Monday's session was slated to include a federal mediator. Bath Iron Works is one of the largest shipbuilders for the Navy.
