The tropical storm that ripped through the Princeton region Tuesday brought down large trees, wires, and debris on many roadways. Thousands of residents and business owners in the region lost power.
Police in many towns are urging residents to stay home because driving conditions are dangerous. Police are reminding residents not to pass barricades or attempt to remove trees or wires from the road. Some drivers in Princeton were seen trying to drive under downed wires. Other drivers didn’t notice them. Some wires, trees, and large branches are still falling after the storm, and many roads are impassable. Many traffic lights are out, including lights along major roadways like Harrison Street and Washington Road. The southern lane of Harrison Street was blocked off as of 1 p.m. due to wires down. There were also wires down on Clearview Avenue. Snowden Lane is closed at Herrontown Road. Riverside Drive, Russell Road, and Herrontown Road near Snowden Lane are not passable.
About 36,000 PSE&G customers in Mercer County and 32,000 customers in Middlesex County were without power as of 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Across the state, about 375,000 PSE&G customers are without power.
About 11,500 JCP&L customers out of the 18,325 households services by the company were without power as of 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Even the central business district in Princeton was without power. It is the first time business owners can recall the district losing power. Many power lines are underground, but it is likely that a transformer blew and caused the outage. Officials have not confirmed this. Power went out along Witherspoon street from Nassau Street down past AvalonBay. PSE&G is telling some customers power will be restored Thursday and telling others their power will be restored on Friday.
Route 206 in Lawrence is closed between Province Line Road and Cold Soil Road due to multiple trees down.
In Montgomery, portions of River Road, Princeton Avenue, Harlingen Road, the Great Road, Dutchtown Zion Road, and Spring Hill Road due to storm damage.
In West Windsor, many major roads are not passable due to trees and wires down, including:

In South Brunswick, the following roads are closed, according to police:
Route 1 Northbound at Raymond Road
Route 27 in Kingston
Davidsons Mill Road
Deans Rhode Hall Road
Miller Road
Friendship Road
Georges Road
Route 27 near Old Road
Fresh Ponds Road
