Capping off one of the wildest, sloppiest and longest Red River Showdowns in recent memory, Oklahoma edged Texas 53-45 to pick up its first win in Big 12 play.
Sam Ehlinger led yet another late charge, but the Longhorns couldn’t complete the comeback as they fell short in the fourth overtime.
Texas fans, prepare yourselves for a steady dose of “back” jokes in the coming weeks.
Here is some of the national reaction to Texas' loss to the Sooners:
Y’all thought Coach Strong was a bad coach... what’s y’all take now ?😬
— DeShon Elliott (@OfficialShon_4) October 10, 2020
It’s official 2020 is a WILD year! Lol this Texas OU game lol wow neither team wants to win lol
— Phillip Tanner (@PTanner34) October 10, 2020
Oklahoma blocked a Texas field goal in triple overtime, and the Sooners then missed one from dead center to send us to a fourth OT. 😱

Texas/OU is the best bad game I’ve ever seen.
— Daniel Jeremiah (@MoveTheSticks) October 10, 2020
Of course a Stoops would score the go ahead TD against Texas.
— John Harris (@jharrisfootball) October 10, 2020
Was watching Texas/OU when the third quarter started. Then left home and had my phone turned off. Just got home MORE THAN TWO HOURS LATER AND TEXAS AND OU ARE STILL PLAYING?!
— Coley Harvey (@ColeyHarvey) October 10, 2020
@sehlinger3 So proud of you and the team today. Keep ur head up and keep battling. U are the toughest grittiest Qb in the history of Texas. Hook em horns.
— Chris Simms (@CSimmsQB) October 10, 2020
Texas fans, do you want to talk about it?
— Cameron Magruder (@ScooterMagruder) October 10, 2020
Texas is back (to square one)!!!!

Just as we expected: Oklahoma wins the Red River Shootout with defense.
— Brandon Marcello (@bmarcello) October 10, 2020
Texas played to lose by not going for 2 at the end of the game and end of 2nd OT. And they’ve now lost. Congrats.
— Geoff Schwartz (@geoffschwartz) October 10, 2020
Charlie Strong was fired from Texas after three years, going 1-2 against Oklahoma.
Tom Herman, in Year 4 at Texas, is now 1-4 against Oklahoma.

Wind gusts of up to 53 mph expected across Oklahoma as we all collectively exhale
— Forrest Bennett (@ForrestBennett) October 10, 2020
What a game. What a rough way for Sam Ehlinger to go out. Oklahoma with the INT to win it in four OTs.
— Stewart Mandel (@slmandel) October 10, 2020
Texas should have gone for it at the end of regulation. OU was gassed. Otherwise.. can’t really fault their decisions
— Doug Gottlieb (@GottliebShow) October 10, 2020
Tom Herman vs. Oklahoma as head coach at Houston: 1-0

Tom Herman vs. Oklahoma as head coach at Texas: 1-4
If Texas wants to move on to a new coach, there’s a young feller out in North Carolina who has turned the Tar Heels into an undefeated Top 10 team pic.twitter.com/Ft9Bn4Zi8K

Texas coach Tom Herman: "Really proud of our guys for their resiliency and execution down the stretch, but we cannot… we’ve got a lot of things to clean up."
— Brian Davis (@BDavisAAS) October 10, 2020
Regardless of the outcome of this game, I love this guy. Not since Vince Young has any player breathed, slept, or lived Texas football more than Sam Ehlinger. Much love. pic.twitter.com/ASweH3GIh7

The river still runs red.. and Texas still sucks

That was a young, bad Oklahoma team that played poorly and still beat Texas.
— Will Cain (@willcain) October 10, 2020
The #Sooners have won 9 of the past 12 games they have played against Texas.
— Eric Bailey (@EricBaileyTW) October 10, 2020
Gotta be honest. #Texas lost to a bad Oklahoma team (by their standards) that played bad today. Not a good look.
— Emmanuel Acho (@EmmanuelAcho) October 10, 2020
Oklahoma wins the Red River Showdown. Just your standard five-hour, 4-OT game with 98 points.
