While the USC football program received a commitment from a running back in the 2022 class on Tuesday, the Trojans lost out on another.

Just minutes after the Trojans landed De’Anthony Gatson, they saw five-star target Gavin Sawchuk commit to Oklahoma, losing out on the recruitment for the talented back. Sawchuk made his decision on Tuesday after taking a few visits in his recruitment including one to USC.

In the end it was the Sooners who added another USC running back target for this class.

In addition to Sawchuk, USC was also in on Raleek Brown before he made the decision to join the Sooners as well. It’s never fun losing one recruiting battle to a big out-of-state program, but two? That’s tough.

With USC out on both of those recruits, the Trojans can turn their attention to other targets at big positions of need going into the rest of the summer. Having visitors on campus has helped Clay Helton and his staff. Right now they have a solid nine-man 2022 class with a lot of time left to build on it.
