TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida's Javon Green hit a 3-pointer with 12 seconds remaining in the game to lead the Bulls as the North Carolina A&T men's basketball team suffered a heart-breaking 56-54 loss at the Yuengling Center on Tuesday night.
The Aggies (0-3) led by eight, 54-46, with under three minutes to go after a 3-pointer from graduate guard Kameron Langley. The basket made him the 38th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for his career.
After the historic moment, the Bulls (2-1) executed a 10-0 run, including Greene's game-winning three. Coming out of a timeout, freshman guard Marcus Watson inbounded the ball to Langley, who passed it back to Watson deep at the top of the key. But Watson's game-winning 3-point attempt rolled around the rim a couple of times before falling harmlessly to the floor.
Graduate guards David Beatty and Tyler Maye had a team-high 14 points apiece to lead A&T. Junior forward Jeremy Robinson had his best game of the year thus far with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting. Langley tallied five points, five rebounds and a season-high seven assists.
Behind six points from Beatty and five points from Robinson, the Aggies jumped out to a 19-5 lead with 8 ½ minutes remaining in the first half. The Aggies maintained a double-figure lead for most of the first half, but the Bulls did get the lead under 10 when a Caleb Murphy steal led to a Jalyn McCreary dunk before the half as the Bulls went into the locker room trailing 29-20 at the half.
The Aggies maintained a sizable lead for the first portion of the second half, even extending their lead 49-35 on an and-one conversion from Beatty with 8 ½ minutes remaining. However, A&T scored on just two field goals from there, enabling the Bulls to come back.
