HOISINGTON — The Hoisington Cardinals had no defensive answers for Thomas More Prep Monarch quarterback Kade Harris in Friday's 2A football playoff game.

Harris swung the momentum with two huge kickoff returns in a 36-27 victory over Hoisington in the 2A football playoffs. Harris scored three touchdowns and rushed for 148 yards.

Hoisington's Legend Robinson led a dazzling second-half rally with three touchdowns and 226 yards rushing.

From the opening kickoff, everything swung the way for the Hays Thomas More Prep Monarchs. Hoisington’s Jason Robinson nearly recovered the game’s opening kickoff.

When the Monarchs covered the kickoff, they strung together four consecutive scoring drives for a 26-6 halftime lead. Monarch quarterback Kade Harris roared past the Cardinal defense on a series of quarterback keepers for 84 first-half yards.

Harris dashed 23 yards and Bryce Seib ran 22 yards on the opening 66-yard drive. After Harris dashed 17 yards, Garrett Schumacher ran 18 yard for another touchdown.

The Cardinals pieced together a solid 80-yard scoring drive capped by Legend Robinson’s 1-yard touchdown.

The momentum lasted 10 seconds when Harris returned the kickoff 78 yards for a 20-6 lead with 11:06 left in the second quarter. The Monarchs converted a 70-yard drive to end the half on a Harris 1-yard touchdown.

The Monarchs gained 177 first-half rushing yards.

 The Cardinals (8-2) had a 23-game home winning streak snapped. The Cardinals had won eight consecutive games versus the Monarchs.
