Panthers Lose Weekend Series To TTU - Eastern Illinois University Athletics

Eastern Illinois (10-16, 3-13 OVC) battled tough all afternoon, but fell short against the Eagles of Tennessee Tech (14-13, 9-7 OVC) 3-1. TTU sweeps the Panthers in their two matches this weekend. These were the set scores from today's match: 22-25, 25-22, 19-25, 21-25.

The Panthers started the afternoon to a slow offensive start after losing the first set 22-25. Tennessee Tech only allowed EIU to collect 11 kills in the first set while the Eagles collected 19 out of their 25 points. Danielle Allen led the way for the Panthers in the first with four kills and Elisavet Papageorgiou also had three kills. Eastern held a .308 hitting percentage. Tech was led by Taylor Dorsey who had five kills and two blocks while Ashley Hand led all setters with 17 assists. The Eagles posted a .314 hitting percentage. 

EIU battled back in the second set to even the match at one each with a score of 25-22. The Panthers put together 16 kills in the set including six from Allen. Papageorgiou and Kameryn Sillmon both had two kills each. The defense was led by Ashley Sharkus and Christina Martinez Mundo who held the Eagles to a .132 hitting percentage in the second. Madeline Furtado had five kills in the set while Hand chipped in 11 more assists to her total.

The Eagles came back in the third set winning 19-25 and took a 2-1 lead in the match. Eastern posted a .324 hitting percentage in the third, but allowed a .419 percentage to Tennessee Tech. Allen led the way again for the Panthers after posting six kills while Emily Wilcox posted four more. Smith posted 15 assists for EIU. TTU had Furtado, Dorsey, and Madolyn Isringhausen all have three kills each. Hand also had 13 assists. 

Saturday's match came to a close after the Panthers fought hard in the fourth, but came up just short, 21-25. The Eagles held EIU to a -0.50 hitting percentage in the final set. Allen continued her strong day as she added six more kills, and Smith added eight assists. Tech only posted a .125 hitting percentage in the set. They were led by Furtado, Dorsey, and Isringhausen with two kills each. Hand finished the set with 11 assists.

TTU was led by Furtado with 14 kills, Dorsey with 11 kills and 10 block assists, Isringhausen with 11 kills, and Hand with 52 assists. The Eagles improve to 14-13 on the season, and 9-7 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

EIU was led by Allen who led all attackers with 22 kills, Sillmon with eight kills and six block assists, Wilcox with seven kills, and Smith with 37 assists. The Panthers drop to 10-16 on the season, and 3-13 in the OVC.

Eastern will be back next weekend to finish out the regular season with a matchup against Austin Peay. Senior night will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. ESPN+ and LiveStats will be made available.
