Ozempic has kept a place in the headlines this year, and it looks like that trend will continue.
It all began when folks discovered the diabetes medication was also pretty, darned effective when it came to trying to take the pounds off. But we quickly learned there were some drawbacks there such as “Ozempic Face.”
And now, because things can never be simple and easy, there is apparently “Ozempic Butt,” too.
If you are wondering just what in the world “Ozempic Butt,” could be, well, it’s kind of like “Ozempic Face.”
For those who missed that one, that condition is just a term for the look of someone’s face appearing thinner when they lose a lot of weight quickly.
“Weight loss, whether it is from diet, exercise, surgery or a medication takes a toll on your face,”Joshua Zeichner, the director of Cosmetic and Clinical Research in Dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital, reportedly said. “Fat in the face helps us maintain a naturally youthful appearance. When you lose facial fat, the face often appears gaunt and skeletonized. Especially in people who lose large amounts of weight, the face can appear significantly older.”
Likewise, per reports, if you lose weight from your rear-end quicker than your skin can reshape itself to your new build and form normally, it can apparently make your butt look saggy.
Per one report, nutrition plays a part here, too. David Nazarian, the medical director of MyConciergeMD, said folks on Ozempic should make sure they are eating protein and maintaining a proper diet to keep the muscle from breaking down.
That report said that the “combination of losing weight fast and malnutrition may lead to poor skin elasticity in areas that are usually well-defined on the body.”
It suggested that a healthy exercise routine while on the medication could help prevent the issue, too.
So, if you are looking to lose weight, and thinking about going the Ozempic route it’s probably worth a discussion with your doctor so that you can avoid having “Ozempic Face” or “Ozempic Butt.”
Or both.
