The 2023 season is over for the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins were eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday night with a 26-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Wild Card round at a frigid Arrowhead Stadium.

Miami didn't play well as a whole, but quarterback Tua Tagovailoa needed to be much better than he was if the Dolphins wanted to have a chance of beating the reigning Super Bowl champions. He completed just 20 of 39 passes for 199 yards and one touchdown against one interception.

Tyreek Hill, who spent the first six seasons of his career in Kansas City before being traded to Miami ahead of the 2022 campaign, was Tagovailoa's top target, catching five passes for 62 yards and one touchdown.

The run game was also particularly disappointing as Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane combined for just 42 yards on 14 carries.

That said, it was Tagovailoa who took the brunt of the blame from NFL fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, as he dropped to 1-7 in games played in sub-50 degree weather. Some even believe it's time for the Dolphins to move on from the 25-year-old:

Colin Cowherd @ColinCowherd

Tua is small. Has an injury history. Average arm. Not super athletic. And can only play in ideal conditions. 🤷🏼‍♂️ sorry to wrap the Dolphin fan boys into a pretzel but,,,

Nico @elitetakes_

Tua has been a complete liability. No way around it.

Sam Quinn @SamQuinnCBS

No way am I extending Tua this offseason if I'm the Dolphins. I don't care what the numbers say. He's not good unless conditions are absolutely perfect.

Kevin Massare @KevinMassare

All Miami does is choke against teams that matter. Tua can't win in the cold or against good teams. Unfortunately, the playoffs have both

J Soto @dolphin_4life

Tua Tagovailoa does not deserve a big contract. He hasn't shined in big games and please stop bringing up his Alabama championship.

Evan Massey @massey_evan

I've seen enough. Tua Tagovailoa is not a quarterback the #Dolphins can win with. Without Hill/Waddle, he wouldn't be a starter. To be brutally honest, he's not a good quarterback.

Sanjit T. @Sanjit__T

Tua Tagovailoa is the most overrated Quarterback in the NFL

tiff's tower of terror @terribletiffy12

Tua not acting like the game leader we need him to be.

Miss me with the rest of it.

Marcus Spears @mspears96

Who is Tua when the computer glitches? My question all year long !! Hasn't been able to go beyond the Play Calls enough in a league that's gonna make you in critical games

MLFootball @_MLFootball

The Miami #Dolphins will NEVER win a Super Bowl with Tua Tagovailoa.

He's got zero fire in him and he's got not CLUTCH at all.

The team needs to move on from him this offseason, he is not the answer and they are wasting the prime of Tyreek & Waddle.

Deuce @DeuceDaKid_

Tua gotta go but there's nobody to replace him

Dorado. @SwamiATL

Tua is having one of the most "I'm not him" games ever

Bahama Don 🇧🇸 @N8TheCre8tive

Tua has to go man.

While some fans are calling for the Dolphins to ditch Tagovailoa for another quarterback, the franchise currently doesn't have many options for his replacement, and he's also under contract through the 2024 season.

Tagovailoa will likely get an extension in Miami, though his deal probably won't come close to the contracts signed by the likes of Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow (five years, $275 million) and Los Angeles Chargers signal-caller Justin Herbert (five years, $262.5 million).

Spotrac lists Tagovailoa's market value at $50.4 million annually. Over a five-year period, that would equate to $252 million.

The Dolphins have a lot to sort out entering the 2024 season, but their quarterback situation isn't even close to being up in the air.
