Then the unthinkable happened in 2018: the Buffalo Bills drafted a Division II quarterback out of Wyoming.
The Buffalo Bills continued to hear the jokes and jeers from other NFL teams. “Why didn’t they take Josh Rosen, he’s the most pro-ready quarterback in the draft?”
Yet Josh Allen heard these quotes. He heard everything the media said about him. “Josh Allen is inaccurate. You can’t teach a quarterback that. He’ll never amount to anything. Buffalo made a mistake.”

Brady ended up getting the win, bringing his season total to 1-1 and stamping his name clearly on the NFL MVP race ballet.
Brady continued to dominate good teams as he went into a week three match up with the Houston Texans. Tom Brady put up 35 attempts with 25 completions and 378 yards with five touchdowns.
This was supposed to be the year that Tom Brady fell off. Instead, Tom Brady improved to 2-1 on the season, as New England eyed the playoffs once again.
In week four, Brady went head to head with Cam Newton’s Carolina Panthers. Tom Brady put up 45 attempts, 32 competitions with 307 passing yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, Brady lost this game bringing his win/loss record to 2-2 in the first month of the season.
Brady’s end total for the first four games of the 2017 season ended at 155 attempts with 103 competitions, 1,399 passing yards, and 10 touchdowns.
Brady’s first month of the season left much to be desired, yet… he ended up winning the NFL MVP race. Why couldn’t 2020 be Josh Allen’s year?

Patrick Mahomes is a marvel of a quarterback. You simply can’t stop watching him and every throw he makes. He makes everything look easy. Mahomes is the next MVP winner we’re going to examine.
Mahomes started the 2018 season against LA Chargers winning the game easily and ending with a stat line of 27 attempts with 15 completions and 256 yards with four touchdowns. This is the game that welcomed the young star to the NFL. Mahomes started his NFL career 1-0.
The second game of the season saw Mahomes go absolutely bananas. He attempted 28 passes with 23 completions with 326 passing yards and six total touchdowns.
The kid could not be stopped, and the MVP voters quickly took notice. The steam picked up for Patrick Mahomes to win the NFL MVP race. Patrick Mahomes won the game moving him to 2-0.
Week three, Mahomes didn’t let up again, as he took San Francisco to the woodshed. Mahomes stat line included 38 attempts with 24 completions, 314 passing yards, and three touchdowns.
The three touchdowns broke the NFL passing record for most touchdowns in the first three weeks of the season. Patrick Mahomes had control of the NFL MVP race, and he never looked back.
The last game we’re going to look at is week four against the Denver Broncos, a division rival. Mahomes won this game as well, moving him to 4-0 with a stat line of 45 attempts with 28 completions, 304 yards, and one touchdown.
Mahomes ended the first quarter of the NFL season with 138 attempts with 90 completions, 1,200 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown with a perfect 4-0 record. Why couldn’t 2020 be Josh Allen’s year?

Lamar Jackson went the Patrick Mahomes route when it came to winning the NFL MVP race. He captured the hearts of America after week one of the 2019 season and never let them go.
Jackson’s welcome to the NFL happened in his first game of the 2019 season. He took the Baltimore Ravens offense and embarrassed the Miami Dolphins to a tune of 20 attempts with 17 completions for 324 yards and five touchdowns.
The media immediately praised the Ravens for selecting him in the back half of the first round in the 2018 NFL Draft. Jackson had stamped his ticket to the NFL MVP race talk. Lamar Jackson started the season 1-0.
Week two saw Jackson face an Arizona Cardinals team that kept things competitive. Jackson attempted 37 passes with 24 completions for 272 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Week three, Jackson walked into a buzz saw, competing against the then reigning NFL MVP, Patrick Mahomes. Jackson attempted 43 passes with 22 completions and 267 yards with zero touchdowns, losing his first game of the season and bringing his win record to 2-1.
Week four wasn’t much different for Lamar Jackson, as he went up against the Cleveland Browns, a division rival who, like Buffalo, has been a laughing stock for most of their franchise’s history.
Lamar Jackson attempted 34 passes with 24 completions for 247 yards passing and three touchdowns. Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens lost this game, sinking Jackson to 2-2 in the first quarter of the 2019 NFL Season.

Now we’ve been through the last three NFL MVP winners and I’ve constantly typed, “Why couldn’t 2020 be Josh Allen’s year?” … well, why couldn’t it?

Week two, Allen faced yet another division game against the Miami Dolphins. Most people refused to see Allen as an ascending talent. Instead, they mocked his first 300-yard passing game.
What did Allen do? He did what he normally does. He listened, and he followed his week one performance with a stellar week two to the tune of 35 attempts with 24 completions for 415 passing yards and four touchdowns. He moved the Buffalo Bills to 2-0.
The media narrative was that is was just the Dolphins and the Jets. So what does Allen do? In week three, Josh Allen faced a stout LA Rams team and decided to lead a fourth-quarter comeback to will his team to a win. Does that sound like something an MVP would do?
Allen ended the game with a stat line of 33 attempts with 24 completions for 311 yards, four passing touchdowns, and one very questionable interception. Josh Allen also added one touchdown on the ground.
Week four saw the media apologizing to Josh Allen. Allen played the Las Vegas Raiders. He played against former Fresno State star, Derek Carr.
