OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Hours after a severe storm flooded the area on Tuesday, water still filled the parking lot at the OakView Apartments near 70th and Military Avenue.

Resident Deb Thiemann saw just how much the water rose in a matter of minutes.

“Water was coming out from that garage open and it was all the way to the top coming in,” Thiemann said. “Then I saw the cars like bumping cars, just floating everywhere.”

Thiemann saw seven cars get swept up by the water, some of which ended up in nearby Cole Creek. A Nissan Versa that was stuck in a tree belongs to Thiemann.

“When you see your car float away, that’s a nightmare,” Thiemann said.

To make matters worse, Thiemann moved to OakView just three weeks ago. All her personal belongings were still in one of the garages that sustained damage from the storm.

“I lost everything in my garage,” Thiemann said. “It’s in the creek and now on the trees.”

Resident Eve Pierro said she was planning to move out on Tuesday. Her car got stuck on the grass by the creek.

“That was our car,” Pierro said. “I don’t even know and we don’t have another car.”

Pierro and Thiemann both contacted the apartment for help, but did not get a quick response.

“We don’t know what to do, we’re in the dark,” Thiemann said. “But, we do need some help.”

6 News reached out to Red Key, the complex’s property manager. They said they’re aware of the situation and are working assessing the damage and what insurance can do to help.
