LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After the game was interrupted by a bomb threat, No. 12 Louisville walked off No. 22 North Carolina for the second straight day, posting a 6-5 14-inning victory at Jim Patterson Stadium on Sunday.
The game was delayed for approximately 2:20 minutes following a bomb threat that was called into Jefferson County Sheriff's office at 2:22 and the stadium was evacuated shortly before 3 p.m.
Following a sweep of the stadium by the Louisville Metro Police Department, the teams returned to the stadium, but fans were not allowed back.
Palermo struck out five of the nine batters he faced and walked just one in 2.2 innings pitched.
With Palermo lifted after eight innings, the Cardinals scored four times in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.
The game remained tied into the 14th inning with UNC reliever Connor Ollio (1-1) pitching magnificently through 3.2 innings with four strikeouts, before UofL claimed victory.
The Cardinals loaded the bases in the 14th and Isaac Humphrey ended it with a single to right field that plated Jack Payton, who led off the inning with a double.
Ben Wiegman (1-0) picked up the win after 0.2 innings of relief.
