A lightning strike caused a house fire on Anniston Avenue in Gulfport early this morning.
No injuries have been reported and the fire was contained within minutes of the fire department arriving on scene.
A neighbor was getting ready for work when he saw lightning flash and heard a huge explosion coming from across the street. Resident Trey Cranford said, “We looked out the window to see what had happened and the next thing we noticed is that the neighbor’s home is on fire. My girlfriend jumps up, grabs the phone, dials 911, and gets the fire department on the way.”
Gulfport Fire Lt. Jess Traina said, “We have a lot of firefighters coming and I would say we had our two units arrive here at the same time. It was a very short response and it made it easier to get the fire out before it got any worse.”
“I’m surprised that whole house isn’t burned down. It’s a miracle, it really is.”
A portion of Anniston Avenue had to be blocked off, but has been since reopened.
