The Rockies’ margin for error on the road is thin. In Thursday’s game against the Mets it was one pitch.
The Rockies lost 1-0 on a solo home run by José Peraza off German Marquez in the third inning at Citi Field in the first game of a doubleheader. Peraza smacked Marquez’s first-pitch slider into the left-field seats.
The game took only 1 hour, 54 minutes to complete.
The Rockies, 3-19 on the road, were shut out for the eighth time on the road this season and the fifth time in May. New York starter Marcus Stroman pitched six innings, allowing three hits, striking out three and walking two. He induced the Rockies into 10 groundball outs.
Colorado’s three hits: A one-out single by Ryan McMahon in the first, a two-out single by Marquez in the fifth, and a one-out bloop single to center by Trevor Story in the sixth.
Reliever Edwin Diaz set down the Rockies in order in the seventh, striking out two.
Marquez was excellent, giving up just three hits and striking out six. He needed only 62 pitches to get through six innings. Marquez now has 702 career strikeouts, making him the sixth pitcher in Rockies history to reach 700 strikeouts, and he became the fastest to reach 700.
Right-hander Antonio Senzatela starts Game 2 for the Rockies, while the Mets will start lefty Joey Lucchesi.
