The Binghamton Rumble Ponies played their first game in front of hundreds of cheering fans last night, and although they lost to the Altoona Curve 5-0, it was great to welcome back baseball.

The game didn’t have a lot of highlights, Rumble Ponies Owner and President John Hughes threw out Tuesday night’s ceremonial first pitch to Binghamton Mayor David, and Jared Robinson pitched a scoreless relief inning, with close to 2000 fans showing up to welcome back the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

The Curve scored big in the sixth inning with a two run homer by Oneil Cruz, and the finishing touches with a three run homer in the ninth from Canaan Smith Njigba.

Altoona’s pitching was key in the victory, as Roansy Contreras allowed no runners on base through five and two third innings, with just two walks through the sixth.

Binghamton starter Tylor Megill pitched five innings with five strikeouts, only allowing two runs in his early season, Thomas McIlraith took over in the sixth inning, and gave up a walk and the two run homer.

The Ponies only hit came in the seventh inning when Sebastian Elizalde lead off the inning with a single, stealing second base, but the Ponies fell short of scoring when Wagner LaGrange flew out in left field

The Rumble Ponies remain winless through their first six games but will continue their six game series with the Altoona Curve this evening at 6:35pm, with pregame coverage on MiLB.com beginning at 6:20pm.
