It's May 9. The Dodgers still possess more talent than any other team in baseball. They will still likely win their division. But the past few weeks have revealed the relative weakness of the team's depth, at least when compared to previous incarnations. That, plus a shaky bullpen, is a serious concern. But the Dodgers will still be fine. Probably.
What are the keys to getting back on track?
McCullough: If the Dodgers are going to get back on track, they're going to need to score more runs. The offense was lackluster once again on Sunday. The team went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, which is always problematic. The team will also need to get healthy. The club misses Cody Bellinger, who played in only four games this year before breaking his leg. The Dodgers will also need Corey Seager to hit for power again.
Could the Dodgers look to make any moves?
McCullough: Yes, the Dodgers could look to make some moves. Perhaps they could try to acquire the reigning National League Cy Young award winner to help their rotation. Maybe they could bring in the reigning World Series MVP to help the lineup. Or they could find a former MVP to catalyze the top of the lineup.
Oh, wait. They have those players.
The team could look to make additions on the margins of their roster, but they've already expended a decent amount of prospect capital in recent years, and there aren't a lot of trades to make in May. The team just has to ride through this rough patch with the group who went 13-2 to start the season.
