Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX) will provide long-range, anti-ship cruise missile systems to Romania under an agreement between the European country and the U.S. Navy.
The U.S. government is selling the Naval Strike Missile Coastal Defense System through the foreign military sales program to help Romanian armed forces to defend against targets on land and at sea, Raytheon said Tuesday.
The signing of the letter of offer and acceptance makes Romania the federal government’s first FMS customer for the missile system designed to reach targets more than 100 nautical miles away.
Raytheon developed the NSM CDS with Norway-based defense and aerospace company Kongsberg Defence and serves as the distributor of the system to the U.S. military and foreign allies.
The Navy chose the NSM weapon in 2018 for use in over-the-horizon defense operations aboard the service branch’s Constellation-class frigates and its fleet of Littoral Combat Ships.
